Basics
Do I need an account?
No. sharepot works entirely without sign-up – open the app, create a pot, go.
What's free and what's Pro?
Free: up to 3 pots, equal splitting, live sync, settling up and payments. Sharepot Pro adds: unlimited pots, uneven splitting (percent, exact amounts, shares), statistics, budget, recurring expenses, receipt scanner, PDF/CSV export, custom categories, and sharing your own payment methods.
I can't find a feature.
Simple mode is probably on – it deliberately keeps the app lean. Switch to “Advanced” via the gear icon in your profile and every feature becomes visible.
Sharing pots & live sync
How do I join a shared pot?
Open the invitation link or scan a member's QR code – or enter the join code in the app. Then pick your name under “That's me” if the group has already added you.
The invitation link doesn't open the app.
If the link only opens a web page, you'll find the join code there: type it into the app. Also make sure sharepot is installed on the device.
I appear twice in the pot.
When joining, pick your existing name under “That's me” instead of creating a new one. An accidental duplicate can be deleted in the pot info.
Changes don't reach everyone.
Live sync needs internet on both sides. Open the app briefly – it catches up on launch, then changes arrive live. Otherwise check in the pot info that “Share online” is on.
Who can see my data?
Only people who have a pot's invitation link or code. Local (unshared) pots never leave your device. So share invitations only with your group. Your payment methods are additionally end-to-end encrypted and readable only by the members you select.
Expenses & splitting
Can I split unevenly?
Yes, with Sharepot Pro: by percent, exact amounts, or shares (e.g. a couple counts double). Switch the mode under “For whom” when adding an expense.
Can I add an expense in another currency?
Yes – just pick the foreign currency when adding it. sharepot converts to the pot currency at the current rate and locks that rate for the expense; you can adjust it before saving.
How do I edit or delete an expense?
Tap the expense in the feed to edit it. To delete, swipe across the expense in the list.
The receipt scanner reads the amount or date wrong.
Photograph the receipt as straight and well-lit as possible. Recognition runs entirely on your device, and you can correct all captured values before saving.
Why do I see recurring expenses on one device only?
The templates (e.g. “rent, monthly”) deliberately live only on the device that created them. The expenses they generate sync normally with the shared pot.
Settling up & payments
How are the settlement suggestions calculated?
sharepot nets all balances and suggests as few transfers as possible – not everyone pays everyone, only what's needed.
“Mark as paid” vs. “Record payment” – what's the difference?
“Mark as paid” settles a suggested transfer in full. “Record payment” (long-press the plus button) logs any direct or partial payment between two members.
The banking QR doesn't work with my bank.
The code is an EPC credit-transfer QR that most banking apps in the euro area can read. If yours doesn't, simply make a normal transfer to the IBAN shown.
Who can see my payment methods?
Only the members you release them to. The transfer is end-to-end encrypted – the server and all other members can't read them. You can withdraw a release per member at any time; with automatic sharing it applies to all current and future members of the pot.
Sharepot Pro
What does Sharepot Pro cost?
€9.99 per year – with the first week free to try – or a one-time €24.99. Prices may vary by country.
How do I cancel the trial or subscription?
Directly with Apple: iPhone Settings → your name → Subscriptions. Cancel at least 24 hours before it ends, otherwise the subscription renews automatically.
How do I move Sharepot Pro to a new device?
Pro is tied to your Apple ID and works on all devices using that ID. Open the Sharepot Pro page in your profile and tap “Restore purchases”.
Can I get a refund?
Purchases and subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple. Request a refund with your Apple ID at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Data & privacy
How do I delete my data?
Local pots live only on your device – deleting the pot or the app is enough. A shared pot can be deleted “just for me” or “for everyone”; content deleted from the server is permanently removed after 90 days at the latest. See the privacy policy for details.
New iPhone – are my pots gone?
No, as long as you set up the new device from a backup or device transfer as usual – all pots come along. Without a backup, a member can simply invite you into the shared pot again; local pots can't be restored then – export them as PDF or CSV beforehand if needed.
